CHP's Çelik: We are continuing our struggle for democracy in Esenyurt

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik stated that they are continuing their struggle for democracy in Esenyurt.

Speaking to journalists at Esenyurt Square, Çelik said that the CHP stands against injustice and lawlessness wherever it occurs in Turkey and the world.

Stating that they are on the second day of the "democracy vigil" in Esenyurt Square, Çelik pointed to the process in which Ahmet Özer was arrested and removed from his post as Mayor of Esenyurt.

Arguing that the operation in question was a blow to the will of the voters in Turkey, Çelik said, "Those who carried out the operation did not allow lawyers to participate in the searches at both the home and the Esenyurt Municipality. In this respect, we would like to state that the elements presented as evidence are also invalid. Today, we are continuing our struggle for democracy in Esenyurt."

Claiming that a second blow was dealt to the will of the voters in Esenyurt, Çelik used the following expressions: "It was reported that notices were sent to the elected municipal council members of Esenyurt, transferring their powers to civil servants. Trustees have also been appointed to replace the elected mayors in Mardin, Batman, and Halfeti."

CHP Deputy Chair Özgür Karabat, CHP Istanbul MPs Gamze Akkuş İlgezdi and Enis Berberoğlu, and the Istanbul provincial chairs of some other parties were also present in the area to show their support.

The group dispersed after the statement.
