CHP Group Deputy Chair Ali Mahir Başarır receives warning penalty over 'cologne bottle' incident

TBMM Deputy Speaker Sırrı Süreyya Önder stated that they had experienced an unpleasant incident, saying, "Such physical behavior coming from a Group Deputy Chair further increases the gravity of the situation.

"HE MUST APOLOGIZE"

AKP Group Deputy Chair Özlem Zengin stated that CHP Group Deputy Chair Ali Mahir Başarır had thrown a bottle of cologne at his colleagues, saying, "If this has been done; you said, 'Leave it to me, I will propose a solution'. This solution is, at the very least—though I think it is a very light sanction—what is necessary. Mr. Ali Mahir must absolutely apologize in this General Assembly for what he has done; he must openly express the consequence of this action he took openly, he must apologize," she said.

CHP Group Deputy Chair Ali Mahir Başarır, reminding that they are in a sensitive period, said, "Both our party and 86 million people are in great sorrow and anger. A colleague who took the floor here is talking about a file.

Look, we do not know these files, lawyers do not know, members of parliament do not know. But members of parliament can talk about the file and provide information in the press and here.

Furthermore, if the colleague sitting there comes from behind and says 'speak' or something, I will react to it. I threw the cologne, it didn't hit him or anything, I threw it in that direction. But we are angry, we are frustrated.

There is provocation here, there is incitement here. If someone targets the group here for innocent people who are in prison or in custody today by providing information about a file that is confidential, then there will be a reaction to it," he said.

Subsequently, the TBMM Deputy Speaker issued a warning penalty to Başarır in accordance with Article 157 of the Rules of Procedure.
