CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik explains 'İmamoğlu' plans: 'It is too early'

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik explained the CHP's new plans for IMM Mayor İmamoğlu to Arena following the Saraçhane rallies.

Çelik stated, "Our people will continue to tear down the walls of fear. Young people and women will continue to take to the streets for justice and freedom," and invited everyone to the rally to be held in Maltepe on Saturday.

Özgür Çelik said, "Our iftar program was held with high participation. Our Mayor Ekrem's messages were conveyed and shared with the participants." Drawing attention to the tensions in Saraçhane, Çelik argued that the police intervention against the groups was an attempt by the "government to intimidate society."

"THERE ARE 624 DETENTIONS"

Arguing that the detentions and arrests were carried out to prevent discussion of Turkey's economic and security crises, Çelik said, "Young people and women have been coming to Saraçhane for a week, shattering that wall of fear. However, unfortunately, detentions were carried out with harsh interventions throughout the night. Some of those young people were arrested and some were detained." Çelik stated that according to his own findings, 624 people had been detained. Çelik said, "The vast majority of these individuals have been released, but 66 people were referred to the courthouse and 24 were arrested."

"OUR PEOPLE WILL CONTINUE"

Stating that the CHP is determined to continue the social resistance, Çelik said, "Our people will continue to tear down the walls of fear. Young people and women will continue to take to the streets for justice and freedom." Çelik said that they would continue the resistance with many people in Saraçhane, on Vatan Avenue, and at the Çağlayan Courthouse.

"IT IS TOO EARLY TO SAY THIS IS OVER"

Touching upon the rally to be held in Maltepe on Saturday, Çelik said, "It is too early to say that this is over. This is a new beginning. I say this will be over when Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu, the presidential candidate elected with nearly 16 million votes in Turkey, regains his freedom, when the early election ballot box arrives, and when a change of government takes place in Turkey."
