CHP IT official detained

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office reported that one more person has been detained as part of an investigation into "corruption" allegations concerning the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

According to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was determined that the Republican People's Party (CHP) had shared election ballot box data obtained from the Supreme Election Council with "members of a criminal organization." In this regard, it was stated that CHP IT official O.G.E. was detained on charges of "unlawfully obtaining, recording, and disseminating personal data."

It was noted that the scope of the investigation is being expanded and is ongoing.

STATEMENT FROM THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

The following statements were included in the written announcement published by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office:

"It has been determined through a report by the National Cyber Incident Response Center that election ballot box data belonging to 11,360,412 Istanbul voters, identified within the application named 'İBB HANEM,' was matched with various personal data held by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Furthermore, it was determined that the Republican People's Party provided the election ballot box data it obtained from the Supreme Election Council to members of a criminal organization. In this context, CHP IT official O.G.E., who is understood to be the perpetrator of these actions, was detained today (06.11.2025)."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Four employees of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) had been arrested as part of an investigation launched following allegations that the personal data of millions of users was transferred to foreign countries via the "Istanbul Senin" application.
