CHP leader Özel's reaction to apology demand: 67,000 Palestinians were killed, he didn't lift a finger; is this what I should apologize for?
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel responded to remarks by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who asked, "Doesn't Özgür Özel owe an apology?" while speaking about reaching a peace agreement in Gaza.
Özel evaluated President Erdoğan's remarks in Rize, where he spoke about the Israel-Palestine ceasefire and asked, "Doesn't Özgür Özel owe an apology?" as follows:
"He has treated us unfairly many times in the past. He couldn't get the Eurofighters, and then when he took credit for getting them, we said, 'We had a hand in these Eurofighters. Mayor Ekrem had a hand in this. He could have at least said a small thank you for this.' Then, while they were saying, 'There is no such thing,' the German government spokesperson made a statement and ended the debate: 'I gave them because Özgür Özel and Ekrem İmamoğlu asked,' they said.
Upon this, I had asked, 'Doesn't he owe an apology?' It must have bothered him so much that he waited and waited. Now he is talking about an apology. What would I be apologizing for? For the Gaza plan. 67,000 people, half of them women and children, Palestinians were killed, and he didn't lift a finger; is this what I should apologize for? Or for the fact that Trump called Netanyahu, a war criminal, 'You are a hero,' and he didn't say a word.
Is this what I should apologize to him for? When going to America, he answered questions about Palestine not with self-confidence, but with silence. Is this what we should apologize for? Before this plan, there was the plan Trump announced himself: 'We will empty Gaza. I will build a casino there. We will settle there. And the Palestinians will go to five different countries,' he had said.
He remained silent on this. Is this what we should apologize to Erdoğan for? Now the Gaza plan has emerged. Here, too, Israel will stop at some point, but it is not leaving Gaza.
The situation regarding the Palestinians is as if they are going to perform auxiliary services, as if someone else will be the owner of that place and Palestinians will be there in secondary roles. In other words, they will be pariahs in their own homeland. Is this what I should apologize to Erdoğan for?
"ERDOĞAN, WHO PRACTICES DISCOURTEOUS POLITICS, IS THE ONE WHO NEEDS TO APOLOGIZE"
In the end, it emerged that at the end of this process, Gaza might not be under Israeli occupation, but it will be under Trump's annexation. He will take ownership of it, take ownership of the hydrocarbon deposits, and take ownership of that geography. Is this what I should apologize for?
Erdoğan should stop, think, and realize that even though he has made so many mistakes, we still use the most polite language toward him so that our country is not humiliated on the international stage. In every platform we attend, we defend Palestine, we defend Gaza, and we defend Turkey's interests.
He still doesn't learn from this. He shamelessly tries to stir up controversy. If there is someone who should apologize, it is Erdoğan, who practices such discourteous and ungrateful politics; he needs to apologize not to us, but to all of Turkey."
