CHP's Burcu Köksal says 'cameras and bugs found everywhere in the municipality'

The latest statements by Burcu Köksal, who was elected Mayor of Afyonkarahisar from the CHP with 50.73 percent of the vote in the March 31 elections, have become a hot topic.

Stating that she had a bug sweep conducted in the municipal building, Köksal said, "There are cameras and bugs everywhere. They put them under the electrical outlets. We sent in a team. They are going to scan our entire floor."

Afyonkarahisar Mayor Burcu Köksal made striking statements to Nail Azbay from Afyon Postası. Stating that they have started work by bringing in an independent auditor, Köksal said that the municipality has an estimated debt of 1 billion TL, while their budget is 1.5 billion TL.

"WE HAVE A SERIOUS NEED FOR PERSONNEL"

Stating that they have also identified 'ATM employees' (ghost employees) in the municipality, Köksal said, "We have identified about 15 people so far. We are examining them one by one. The number could rise to 200-300.

The people are nowhere to be found. I didn't fire them either. Here is what I did. We have a serious need for personnel in the Parks and Gardens Directorate.

They appear as manual laborers but are not at their workplaces. We assigned them there. If you are going to work, work there and earn your bread; if you won't work, I'm sorry, but I cannot pay a salary to anyone for sitting around," she said.

"HIRED FOR POLITICAL REASONS"

Köksal said, "There are 102 people hired in the last 2 months. I need to dismiss all of them. Because they were hired for political reasons. Meaning, they were hired in exchange for promises of votes. Why should we let the money of the people of Afyon be squandered? Why should we give this to people who won't do any work?" she said.

"THEY PUT THEM UNDER THE OUTLETS AND SUCH"

Köksal also said that she had a search conducted in the municipal building for devices known as 'bugs' used for ambient listening. Köksal stated, "I am also having a bug sweep done. There are cameras and bugs everywhere. They put them under the outlets and such. It's not like you would know. It is even rumored that there is a camera in the elevator. We sent in a team under the guise of painting and maintenance. They are going to scan our entire floor," she explained.
