CHP's Yavuzyılmaz documents over-loading in İliç with his statement

The Parliamentary Research Commission, established to investigate all aspects of the landslide at the mine in the İliç district of Erzincan, where 9 workers were left under the rubble, and to determine measures to prevent potential mining accidents, met under the chairmanship of AKP Antalya MP Atay Uslu.

At the commission's second meeting, the work schedule was determined. A debate occurred as commission members made suggestions regarding the work schedule and the names that should be heard regarding the accident.

CHP Zonguldak MP Deniz Yavuzyılmaz said, "The height of the artificial mountain consisting of millions of tons of cyanide-containing heap leach material has reached approximately 264 meters. A world record has been broken in this area with this height. One of the primary individuals responsible for the mine site reaching this height is the then-Minister of Environment, Murat Kurum.

The capacity increase that caused the leach site to reach this height was carried out with the permit signed on behalf of Murat Kurum and granted to the company," he said.

AKP and MHP MPs reacted to these words by Yavuzyılmaz. Chairman Uslu gave a 5-minute break to the commission meeting.

Taking the floor after the break, Yavuzyılmaz proved with documents that the mining disaster in İliç was due to over-loading at the heap leach site.

CHP's Yavuzyılmaz shared the video footage of his speech with the note, "We have documented that over-loading was carried out at the heap leach site in the gold mine operated by Anagold, where the disaster occurred in İliç."

In his speech, Yavuzyılmaz announced that a different mining company was also loading the leach site and that this company was also established by the same firm as the other company.

He stated that an over-loading situation emerged at the mine site due to the loading carried out through different companies from 2021 to 2024, and that this resulted in the disaster.
