CHP reacts to operations against municipalities: 'The AKP itself is corruption'
Republican People's Party (CHP) Spokesperson Deniz Yücel held a press conference at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) to evaluate the agenda. Noting that the CHP will stand by low-income citizens during the month of Ramadan, Yücel shared his views on economic issues, the fight against terrorism, and legal developments.
Yücel began the meeting by expressing his condolences for the late artist Edip Akbayram. Stating that despite the rapidly changing agenda in Turkey, the real agenda of the public is the economy, Yücel reacted to the recently announced inflation figures. Yücel argued that despite the rise in the hunger and poverty thresholds, austerity measures are still being implemented at the expense of retirees, workers, and minimum wage earners.
Touching upon the process of ending terrorism, Yücel stated that this process must be conducted transparently. Yücel emphasized that the TBMM should be the place where the problem is solved and that the families of martyrs and veterans should not be offended. The CHP spokesperson stated that the continuation of trustee appointments and the detention of journalists and dissidents shows that a sincere process is not being carried out.
Arguing that while the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced inflation at 39.05 percent, according to ENAG, inflation is 79.51 percent, and that the inflation felt by the citizens is much higher, Yücel used the following expressions:
''On one side, there are detentions and arrests applied to journalists, politicians, and business people, anti-democratic trustee practices, bogus, fabricated, political investigations opened against mayors, and lawlessness experienced in every field; on the other side, there is the cost of living, poverty, injustice in income distribution, and the drama of the minimum wage earner, the retiree, and the low-income earner: In other words, the people's agenda...
The AKP government talks about making reforms in the economy as if they haven't been governing this country for 23 years. It is announced that there will be regulations in unfair tax policies, as if they weren't the ones who have been making workers, retirees, and civil servants suffer for years. An attempt is being made to send the message that 'things are going well in the economy.' However, the figures announced by the government do not coincide with the realities of life.''
Yücel underlined that the inflation data does not reflect the truth and added the following to his words:
''Therefore; in fact, things are not going well in the economy at all. TÜİK, which says Turkey grew in 2024, announced inflation as 39.05 percent today. According to ENAG, inflation is 79.51 percent. However, the inflation felt by the citizen is much higher than this...
The hunger threshold has reached 23 thousand 324 liras, and the poverty threshold has risen to 75 thousand 973 liras. But when it comes to austerity, the first thing that comes to the AKP's mind is still the retiree, the worker, and the minimum wage earner. They shamelessly keep asking for patience from the citizens.''

REACTED TO THE OPERATIONS
Yücel criticized the implementation of omnibus laws and the judiciary becoming an apparatus of the government through political pressure. He stated that after the March 31 elections, the AKP usurped the national will by using the law. He stated that the latest example of operations against CHP municipalities in Istanbul was Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler.
Saying that an attempt is being made to create a perception of corruption with dawn raids, but that the AKP itself is the very embodiment of corruption and irregularity, Yücel noted the following:
''Both the laws that have been stripped of their meaning and purpose through the omnibus law practice, and the judiciary that has become an apparatus of the government through political pressure, have been made to serve the AKP's goal of extending its rule. We see with regret that every kind of lawlessness that would shelve the national will is being committed in this country by the government itself.
Especially after the March 31 elections, Erdoğan, who could not digest the AKP becoming the second party, has seen no harm in usurping the national will by using the law. The latest address of the operations against Republican People's Party municipalities in Istanbul has been our Beykoz Mayor, Mr. Alaattin Köseler. The AKP, which is after creating a perception of corruption and irregularity in the public eye with dawn raids, is the very embodiment of both corruption and irregularity. Raiding the home of an elected person in the pitch darkness of the morning, and trying to intimidate our CHP mayors and everyone who is an opponent, is something that can only be done by those who are afraid of the ballot box, who play dirty, and who know they will lose when the ballot box comes.''
