CHP's Ali Mahir Başarır makes 'Şafak Hospital' claim: 'I am saying this for the first time'

The 'Newborn Gang' scandal, in which members acted in collusion with certain employees of the 112 Emergency Call Center in Istanbul to transfer infants in critical condition to the neonatal units of private hospitals for illicit gain, leading to the deaths of some infants, has drawn widespread public outrage.

As part of the investigation, 22 out of 47 suspects were arrested. In September, the operations of the private Bağcılar Şafak Hospital were suspended.

Subsequently, the licenses of the hospitals involved in the scandal were revoked: Private Avcılar Hospital, Private TRG Hospitalist Hospital, Private Birinci Hospital, Private Güney Hospital, Private Bağcılar Medilife Hospital, Private Beylikdüzü Medilife Hospital, Private Reyap İstanbul Hospital, Private Şafak Hospital Bağcılar, Private Silivri Kolan Hospital, and Çorlu Reyap Hospital.

STATEMENT ON ŞAFAK HOSPITAL FROM CHP'S BAŞARIR

Politicians are also making statements regarding the 'Newborn Gang' scandal, which is currently Turkey's top agenda item. CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır evaluated the issue as a guest on the 'Gündem Özel' program on Tele 1.

'THEY SAY WE WILL SHOOT YOU'

Drawing attention to the confidential investigation, Başarır said, 'A secret investigation was conducted for a year regarding this. No one knew about it; the prosecutor was handling it. The ringleader threatened the prosecutor, saying, "We will shoot you in the head." He said, "It is very easy." After that, we learned something else.'

Making statements regarding Şafak Hospital, which is involved in the scandal, Başarır said, 'For example, the most notorious of these hospitals is Şafak Hospital. The SGK cancelled its access credentials and severed its ties. They obtained a concordat injunction from the commercial court and continued to receive payments from there. How are they able to receive them? I am saying this for the first time.'
