CHP Spokesperson Yücel reacts to investigation: 'The AKP's final flailing'

CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel criticized the investigation launched into the Provincial Congress, stating that the process is being conducted for political purposes. Yücel emphasized that following allegations regarding the grand party congress, provincial congresses are now also being targeted. Recalling that an investigation had previously been opened against Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik on charges of 'violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations,' Yücel stated that a new investigation has now been initiated regarding the election process.

Suggesting that the AKP is behind these investigations, Yücel described the events as 'the AKP's final flailing.' Hinting at an 'early election,' Yücel sent the message that 'salvation is much closer than expected.'

Claiming that ''the process of change and renewal that began with the provincial congresses has made the CHP the leading party in Turkey,'' Yücel used the following expressions in a post on X:

''Those who attacked our grand congress with baseless allegations are now haunting our provincial congresses. First, an investigation was opened against our Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik on charges of 'violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations.' Immediately after, an investigation was launched regarding our Istanbul Provincial Congress on the grounds that the election was rigged and election law was violated.

We do not know how much longer the AKP will continue its lawlessness to achieve its political goals. The only thing we know is that all of this is the final flailing of a government on its way out. The days when Turkey will meet with democracy and justice are closer than expected.''

Yücel reacted to the investigations and concluded his statement with the words, 'There is no salvation alone! Either all together or none of us.'

INVESTIGATION INTO CHP PROVINCIAL CONGRESS

At the 38th Ordinary Party Congress, Özgür Çelik became the Istanbul Provincial Chair with 342 votes, while former Provincial Chair Cemal Canpolat remained at 310 votes. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that it has taken action following allegations that practices contrary to election rules were carried out at the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress.

The statement included the words, 'An investigation has been launched regarding allegations that the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress elections were rigged and that there was conduct contrary to election law.'

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office also opened an investigation into allegations that 'votes were cast in exchange for money' at the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress held on November 4-5, 2023. While the CHP denied the allegations, Chairman Özgür Özel claimed that the prosecutor's offices were acting ''under the instructions of the AKP.''
