CHP Spokesperson Yücel: Rhetoric about 'being wiped out' has paved the way for violence

CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel, regarding the attack on CHP leader Özgür Özel, stated: "In the recent past, rhetoric such as 'They will dig your grave too' and 'Let's see how many CHP members will be wiped out on this path' has paved the way for the violence directed at our chairman. Furthermore, the government has turned the justice system into a patchwork quilt."

CHP Spokesperson Yücel: Rhetoric about 'being wiped out' has paved the way for violence

CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel made statements following the Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting held regarding the attack on CHP leader Özgür Özel.

The highlights from Deniz Yücel's statement are as follows:

"THOSE WHO SAY 'MORE CHP MEMBERS WILL BE WIPED OUT' HAVE GIVEN COURAGE TO THOSE WHO CARRIED OUT THIS VILE ATTACK"

"The dirty language of politics manifested itself yesterday with a vile attack on our Chairman, Mr. Özgür Özel.

The attack directed at our Chairman, Mr. Özgür Özel, cannot be evaluated independently of the political climate that the government is trying to establish in our country—a climate that polarizes society, creates division, fosters enmity, and targets the opposition and opposition party leaders.

Those who target the Chairman of Turkey's leading party at every opportunity, those who try to drag politics from a legitimate ground into a field of conflict, and those who say 'more CHP members will be wiped out' have given courage to those who carried out this vile attack.

This attack cannot be accepted as an isolated incident. Attacking the chairman of Turkey's leading party means attacking the national will that our party represents. This punch directed at our Chairman was, in fact, directed at democracy, the right to life, the rule of law, peace, and the culture of living together.

In the recent past, rhetoric such as 'They will dig your grave too' and 'Let's see how many CHP members will be wiped out on this path' has paved the way for the violence directed at our chairman. Furthermore, the government has turned the justice system into a patchwork quilt.

They have spread a perception of impunity in society and enacted laws supporting this with a 'take it or leave it' mentality, despite all objections from political parties and professional organizations. If this attacker, who was convicted of killing his two children, can be released in such a short time and walk around freely in society, and can get right up to the nose of the Chairman of Turkey's leading party, then there is a major problem in the country's justice system and its penal system.

If a judicial reform is being carried out for the 9th time by the ruling party in a country, if the Execution Law is changed 42 times in 20 years, and despite all this, the chairman of the main opposition party is attacked by a former convict who killed his two children and was released after serving 16 years in prison, then one cannot speak of rehabilitation, execution, or justice in that country.

"AKP GOVERNMENT'S ECONOMIC POLICIES MAKE LIFE EVEN MORE DIFFICULT"

Sitting in the chair of the Chairman of the Republican People's Party is undoubtedly risking death.

We are aware of the seats we occupy and the responsibility we carry.

We are conscious of how difficult, rugged, and trap-filled the path we have taken is.

However, let everyone know that such attacks will not make us take a single step back, nor will they frighten us.

The source of our courage is the national will; our shield is our nation.

We have left behind a week in which our laborers were dragged on the ground on May 1st, those who voiced the demands of labor and laborers in the squares were detained, dirty hands reached out to the wife, child, and even the piggy bank of the child of Istanbul's guardian, they became so ugly as to say 'you will be wiped out' out of fear of Mayor Ekrem, and a vile attack was carried out against our Chairman, Mr. Özgür Özel.

While injustices, lawlessness, oppression, and persecution continue to increase, the AKP government's economic policies make life even more difficult. Under the AKP government, the cost of living, economic instability, and wages melting against inflation have become a reality of AKP's Turkey. The architect of this broken order is the 23-year-old AKP government, which says 'there is no saving from prestige' and makes savings not from public institutions or their own flamboyant lives, but from the sweat of the worker, the laborer, the retiree, and the civil servant...

"MILLIONS ARE SPENDING THEIR LIVES SAYING 'WE SURVIVED TODAY, GOD WILL PROVIDE FOR TOMORROW'"

Turkey is a country of a handful of politicians and cronies who own tapes saying 'zero the money in the house,' who walk around with bribe watches on their arms, who have money-counting machines and shoeboxes coming out of their homes, who have special secretaries smuggling 60 kilos of gold abroad, and department heads with 25 kilos of gold bullion and millions of dollars coming out of their homes;

It is also the country of millions of low-income people who are trying to survive on 14,000 liras as retirees, minimum wage earners trying to make ends meet on 22,000 liras, farmers who cannot even cover the cost of the products they plant, and those who cannot afford electricity, water, and natural gas bills or kitchen expenses in the face of price tags that change from week to week...

While a certain segment has made their fortune, guaranteed the future of their lineage, and is living it up as if they will never leave their seats, millions are spending their lives saying 'we survived today, God will provide for tomorrow'...

The AKP government, which has made injustice and lawlessness a way of governance, is moving further away from democracy every day and is effectively adding fuel to the fire in the markets, bazaars, and kitchens.

Those who say 'interest is the cause, inflation is the result,' do they not see that lawlessness is the cause and economic collapse is the result,

That the March 19 legal coup is the cause and the Central Bank's 52.5 billion dollar burned reserve is the result?

As a result of the political volatility created by the March 19 legal coup, our citizens have once again helplessly turned to their credit cards for basic needs.

If we take a look at the table; the Central Bank increased the policy rate from 42.5 percent to 46 percent.

Then, consumer loan interest rates rose to 6 percent.

However, thanks to the regulation made in November 2024, credit card interest rates are still fixed and were not affected by this increase. Naturally, the citizen provided for their livelihood through credit cards.

According to the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) data, the total individual credit card debt exceeded 2 trillion liras for the first time in the week of April 11. In the same week, the total overdraft account debt exceeded 522 billion liras, crossing the half-trillion threshold.

Since March 19, consumer loan interest rates have been constantly increasing.

The monthly interest rate, which was 4.69 percent on March 17,

Rose to 5.19 percent on March 24,

To 5.29 percent on April 14,

And to the 5.44 percent level on April 21.

The AKP government, which begrudges the citizen a salary they can live on, denies them the chance for consumer loans due to high interest rates, and forces the citizen to choose between interest rates, is the cause, and the record levels of credit card usage are the inevitable result.

The series of lawlessness that began with the cancellation of a diploma continued until the arrest of bureaucrats who said 'stop' to the Kanal Istanbul plunder.

In a country without law, everything is collapsing one by one...

The fear of Ekrem İmamoğlu felt by those who have turned the independent and impartial judiciary into a toy in the hands of politics is also growing day by day.

The injustices in the trial process of Ekrem İmamoğlu and his friends, who were arrested with baseless allegations and dubious secret witness statements, will go down in history as 'documents of shame.'

This 'trial theater,' where we have witnessed a separate lawlessness at every stage from the very first moment, is not legitimate in the conscience of our nation...

The instructed judiciary, which set out with 'secret witnesses' gossiping about 'I saw, I heard,' organized another operation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in a rush to fill this empty file...

As part of the perception they are trying to create, raids were carried out at dawn again.

It was not enough what they did to Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu and his companions; they became so ugly as to reach his family, his wife, his friends, and even seize his child's piggy bank.

They targeted the İSKİ managers who said 'stop' to those who secretly started the Kanal Istanbul Project, a project of betrayal equivalent to putting dynamite at the foundation of Istanbul.

In their minds, they will make the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality effectively unable to function...

With the conspiracies they have set up, they will both leave the people of Istanbul without service and plunder this ancient city...

"NOW SEE THE REALITIES THAT DO NOT COINCIDE WITH VIRTUAL TABLES OF GOODNESS"

Those who deviate from the law and resort to tyranny think they will silence the CHP, Mayor Ekrem, and his bureaucrats and make them take a step back... However, despite the AKP government, which has lost its mind due to lawlessness, service to the people will continue without slowing down...

Even if you fill the Silivri dungeons with patriots with clean foreheads and heads held high, using your instructed judiciary and the arrests you use as a stick against the opposition, you will not be able to stop us.

While everyone, from students to artists, from workers to tradesmen, is affected by these lawless acts in the country,

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç says 'The judiciary is independent' every other day.

Hey, Mr. Tunç!

Does it become independent just because you say 'The judiciary is independent'?

How can the judiciary be independent with prosecutors who first start an investigation, then look for evidence, and when they cannot find evidence, try to continue the process with media gossip and the allegations of cronies?

How can a government that does not bring the real perpetrators to justice say the judiciary is independent and impartial!

Listen now to the cry of the high court judge who has served this country for exactly 35 years, and the grieving father who lost his child in Bolu Kartalkaya, saying, 'The problem is actually a problem of trust in the judiciary. Today, trust in the judiciary has fallen to the 20 percent level'...

An independent and impartial judiciary is the guarantee of the right to life.

Soma, Amasra, İliç, the February 6 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, the newborn gang, the Kartalkaya disaster....

Every disaster in this country that has not been accounted for before the judiciary has paved the way for the next one.

The reason for all of this is AKP's use of politics as a tool to cover up corruption and irregularities. Now see the realities that do not coincide with virtual tables of goodness!

The AKP government has woven such a web of irregularity and lawlessness in the country that it even interferes with the notes of the deputies who are guests on television programs.

Fahrettin Altun gives cues to AKP deputies, saying 'say these things' if you participate in a television program!

Their gaps are so many that they cannot leave any subject, event, or comment to the initiative or intellectual accounting of AKP deputies.

Look at what Fahrettin Altun, who openly instructs deputies to lie, says;

'If possible, do not enter the subject of TRNC and Halil Falyalı at all. If the subject comes up, evaluate it as a game of FETÖ and foreign intelligence.

Say that those who want to go to Taksim on May 1st are marginal groups with terrorist connections. Criminalize them! Keep the tape issue on the agenda'

We don't call it the Disinformation Spreading Center instead of the Center for Combating Disinformation for nothing...

"We are protecting our diploma, our presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, and our country!"

To those who link everything they cannot get out of to FETÖ,

Who brush things off with lies and deceit by saying they are games of foreign intelligence,

Who instruct that the worker, laborer, and people who want to go to Taksim be labeled as terrorists and criminalized;

We understand that you are ignorant of rights, law, and justice, but do you not even fear God!

Are you not ashamed to portray young children as terrorists and darken their futures!

Are you not ashamed to give the instruction 'slander those who are not one of us'! This is the meaning of this, dear friends...

We are moving forward with the strength we receive from the nation, dear friends...

We know that there are millions who suffer from the lawlessness, injustices, and deepening economic problems in this country...

We are multiplying day by day, and we are raising our voices even more strongly...

We are meeting at Beyazıt Square on Wednesday, May 7, at 20.30.

We are raising our voices together with our university youth in front of Istanbul University against those who try to continue their rule by having a diploma obtained 35 years ago cancelled. We are protecting our diploma, our presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, and our country!
