CHP's '15 metropolitan' victory

With the picture that emerged at the end of the March 31 local elections, the CHP made a major breakthrough while the AKP front experienced a significant loss of support. According to unofficial election results, the CHP won control in 15 metropolitan municipalities and 21 provinces.

Maintaining the administration of Turkey's most populous metropolitan cities such as Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, the CHP also placed its own mayors in numerous provinces and districts.

With the unofficial election results obtained, CHP-led municipalities have gained the opportunity to govern cities that represent 64% of Turkey's population and 80% of its economic size.
