Citizens repair damaged village roads
In the Efeler village of Artvin's Borçka district, residents repaired roads damaged by heavy rainfall through a collective effort known as 'imece'. Led by the village headman, residents of the village in the Camili Basin gathered and decided to perform the road maintenance themselves.
Heavy rainfall in Efeler, one of the 6 villages in the Camili Basin, caused damage to village roads. Deciding to perform the maintenance and repair of the roads themselves instead of reporting them to the Provincial Special Administration, the villagers gathered under the leadership of the village headman.

Working through the imece tradition, the villagers fixed bumps and potholes on the roads and cleared away rocks and soil dragged down by landslides. Village headman Davut Avcı told reporters that the imece culture is a beautiful tradition that has persisted from the past to the present.

Stating that they are satisfied with the work and services provided by the Provincial Special Administration, Avcı said, "We are fixing the places that heavy machinery cannot reach. We are filling the potholes in the roads by working together. We are clearing the tree branches and thorns that extend onto the road."
Avcı stated that there has been damage in many locations across the province recently due to heavy rainfall, and spoke as follows:

"We know that our state's heavy machinery is at those locations. Our roads were also damaged after the rainfall, but it is at a scale that can be handled by human labor. We did not request heavy machinery. We organized this to contribute to our state, and it also turned into a beautiful display of unity."
Niyazi Avcı, one of the village residents, explained that they were repairing the roads damaged after the rainfall with picks and shovels and clearing the clogged water channels.

Şemsettin Sarı noted that it is not right to expect everything from the state, saying, "Provincial Special Administration teams cleaned our roads recently, but they were damaged again after new rainfall. Our channels were clogged. Today, we are cleaning our road with our own means."
