Civil servants attempted to march to the Presidential Palace: Blocked by police barricades

Salary negotiations between civil servants and the government reached a deadlock due to the significant gap between the union's demands and the government's proposals. Following the talks, the United Public-Work Union (Birleşik Kamu-İş) decided to march to the Presidential Palace. Civil servants affiliated with the union are continuing their protests across the country.

POLICE BLOCKADE AROUND THE BUILDING

Civil servants gathered in front of the United Public-Work Union headquarters in Ankara and attempted to march to the Presidential Palace while holding bread in their hands. However, the police took intensive security measures around the building to prevent the protest and blocked the march by setting up barricades.

UNION PRESIDENT WANTS TO MEET WITH ERDOĞAN

Orhan Yıldırım, Chairman of the United Public-Work Union Confederation, stated in his conversation with the police that they want to meet directly with President Erdoğan, not with the arbitration committee he appointed. Yıldırım expressed that the poverty experienced by civil servants has not been sufficiently explained to date and that the Ministry of Finance has made an assessment based solely on statistics.

“HE WILL EITHER LEAVE US TO STARVE OR GIVE THE ORDER!”

Following the discussion with the police, Yıldırım made a statement addressing the government, saying, "The only person who decides on civil servants' salaries is President Erdoğan. He will either leave the civil servants to starve or give the order to the Ministry of Finance to allocate a budget sufficient for a humane standard of living!"
