Claim: AKP has 3 more municipalities in its sights
While operations against CHP-run municipalities continue unabated, it is claimed that the AKP has set its sights on cities where it holds a majority in the municipal council. In this regard, the names of 3 municipalities have come to the fore.
As operations against CHP-run municipalities, which emerged as the leading party in the last local elections, continue, management changes have occurred in some municipalities during this process. In place of mayors arrested as part of the operations, new mayors were determined based on the majority status in the municipal councils. While AKP members were elected to the mayoral position when a majority was secured in the council, the same result emerged in some places due to shifting balances.
COUNCIL ARITHMETIC DETERMINES THE BALANCE
Provinces where the difference between CHP and AKP-MHP municipal council members is small are coming to the fore. According to a report by Sözcü, Kilis is highlighted as one of the critical cities in this context. In the city, there are 15 AKP-MHP members against 16 CHP members. This narrow margin in the council arithmetic brings the possibility of potential changes to the agenda.
CRITICAL PROVINCES: KÜTAHYA AND AMASYA
In Kütahya, the People's Alliance has a total of 26 council members, with 16 from the AKP and 10 from the MHP. The CHP has 11 members. In Amasya, the picture presents a more balanced view. While the CHP has 17, the AKP has 9, and the MHP has 5 council members, the majority balance could change in the event of a potential member defection.
PROVINCES AT RISK OF POTENTIAL CHANGE
It is stated that if council member transfers come to the agenda, Burdur, Giresun, Sinop, Kırıkkale, Kırşehir, and Kütahya are also among the critical provinces. In these provinces, there is a possibility that the council majority could shift to the People's Alliance.
In the latest development in Bursa, following the arrest of Mustafa Bozbey, AKP member Şahin Biba was brought to the position of acting mayor. The CHP had not fielded a candidate in the acting mayor election.
