Claim: PKK terrorist organization's disarmament will be delayed until that date! 'A crisis could erupt in the commission...'

Following the symbolic 'ceremony' in which a group of PKK terrorists laid down their arms in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, as part of the new resolution process architected by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli and dubbed 'Terror-Free Turkey' by the government, all eyes have turned to the commission in the TBMM.

The commission, named the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission, held its first meeting on Tuesday. The second meeting is scheduled for Friday.

Despite the process moving to the commission stage, one of the issues the public is most curious about is the complete disarmament of the PKK terrorist organization.

Halk TV columnist Mehmet Tezkan has made striking claims regarding the PKK terrorist organization's disarmament calendar and the commission established in the TBMM.

Arguing that the People's Alliance (Cumhur İttifakı) did not achieve its targeted results in the summer of 2025, Tezkan made a notable claim. Asserting that the process has been postponed, Tezkan stated, "My claim is this: the government has postponed the PKK's farewell to arms until the summer of 2026."

A CRISIS OF CONFIDENCE IN THE SHADOW OF ECONOMIC CRISIS

Tezkan stated that the economic crisis was influential in the government's decision. Emphasizing that the public's priority is the economy, he said: "While the nation's pockets are burning, they have neither the state of mind, the concentration, nor the energy to applaud the extinguishing of the terror fire... Unless the fire in the economy is at least brought under control, unless a belief is formed that the great depression will end, and unless the unemployment rate, which has skyrocketed to 33 percent (13 million), begins to fall, no one will turn to look even if the government goes to space."

In the remainder of his column, Tezkan also brought up Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek's statements regarding inflation.

"THEY CAN SUCCEED WITH THE HELP OF TÜİK!"

Tezkan recalled Minister Şimşek's remarks that inflation would be 29.9 percent by the end of 2025 and would fall below 20 percent in the last quarter of 2026. "Mehmet Şimşek claims that we will close 2025 with 29.9 percent inflation and that inflation will fall below 20 percent in the last quarter of 2026... That is, to the level of five years ago... The year Erdoğan implemented his 'Nas' (interest-rate) policy... Will he succeed? He can succeed with the help of TÜİK!..." said Tezkan, arguing that in such a scenario, the PKK's disarmament would bring political gain to the government. For this reason, he suggested that the disarmament process has been postponed to the spring and summer of 2026:

"If the PKK lays down its arms in this environment, if the terrorists surrender in this environment, the government gains points... That is why I say they will postpone the disarmament process to the spring and summer months of 2026... If you look at the process calendar, it already points to the spring months of 2026 at the earliest..."

POSSIBILITY OF TENSION IN THE COMMISSION

In his column, Tezkan also commented on the political foundation of the disarmament process, pointing out that a crisis could erupt at any moment in the preparatory commission. Stating that the CHP could present proposals for democratization by referring to the name of the commission, Tezkan expressed that the government could be cornered at this point.

Pointing out that the AKP's rhetoric from the beginning of the summer, stating "this process must be completed in three months, and arms must be laid down in the summer months," has now fallen off the agenda, Tezkan highlighted the extension of the process with the following words: "The CHP could bring various proposals on the path to democratization, saying 'since there is democracy in the name of the commission,' and put them to a vote. It could pressure the AKP/MHP duo... If you notice, the voices of the AKP spokespeople who said at the beginning of the summer that 'this must end in three months, disarmament must happen this summer, the commission must prepare its proposals by October 1, and the prolongation of the process will cause provocations' have gone silent... Because their expectations were not met... That is why they are saying 'this year has passed, hopefully next year!'... The fact that the preparatory commission will work until December 31, 2025, is a sign of this..."
