Clear message from CHP provincial chairs ahead of the convention

The 81 provincial chairs of the CHP gathered in Istanbul following the investigations into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the arrest decisions issued, and made a joint statement.

In the announcement made under the signature of "CHP 81 Provincial Chairs," it was emphasized that the party emerging as the leading party 47 years after the March 31, 2024 elections was a great success, and the following statements were included:

"This success achieved by our party and the trust our nation has placed in our party and our municipalities have disturbed the Palace regime, and systematic attacks against our party have begun. The arrest and removal from office of our Mayors based on empty, legally baseless allegations, the investigations opened into our Convention which resulted from the will of our party's delegates, and the surveillance, detention, and arrest of our Mayors and colleagues, primarily our Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor, President of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye, and our Presidential Candidate Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu, have been met with the rightful and legitimate resistance of our people against these attacks by the government."

"OUR PARTY HAS DEMONSTRATED EFFECTIVE CRISIS MANAGEMENT DURING THIS PROCESS"

The statement noted that the presidential candidate selection primary held on March 23, 2025, turned into a popular movement with broad public participation, and that Ekrem İmamoğlu became Türkiye's presidential candidate, adding the following:

"Under the leadership of our Chairman Mr. Özgür Özel, our party has demonstrated effective crisis management during this process and has continued its struggle to protect democratic values with a determined and upright stance that upholds the will of the people. CHP municipalities will continue their duties with the support of the people, and no anti-democratic attempt will be able to stop our cadres working for the welfare of the people."

"ATTEMPTS TO APPOINT TRUSTEES HAVE BEEN REPELLED"

The statement, which emphasized that attempts to appoint trustees to the Republican People's Party, founded by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, were forced to retreat with our Chairman's call for an "Extraordinary Convention" on April 6, 2025, concluded with the following words:

"We, as representatives of our organization, declare to the public with the joint will and determination of the 81 Provincial Chairs that we stand with our Chairman, Mr. Özgür Özel, at our Extraordinary Convention to be held on April 6, 2025."
