Warning from the CMB regarding phone fraud

The Capital Markets Board (CMB) has warned citizens to be cautious against phone scammers.

In a statement issued by the CMB, it was noted that "It has come to our attention that individuals, who introduce themselves as employees of the Capital Markets Board or another institution, mediators, or representatives, and who use the names of our Board's personnel or various titles, have been contacting our citizens and demanding that money be sent, claiming that administrative fines have been or will be imposed on them by our Board, or due to gambling debts, and/or because our Board is conducting mediation activities, or for any other reason not listed here."

NO PRACTICE OF SENDING MONEY

The CMB stated that it has no practice of calling individuals by phone to ask whether they wish to apply for a settlement before an administrative fine is imposed, nor does it request that money be sent to specific IBAN numbers. The statement emphasized that such activities, which can be considered within the scope of fraud, should not be trusted.

LEGAL RIGHTS CAN BE EXERCISED

The statement further noted that individuals who have been victimized by phone fraud can always file a criminal complaint and exercise all their legal rights to seek compensation for their damages.
