Communications Director Duran announces: Access blocked for 2,702 social media accounts
Communications Director Burhanettin Duran shared the results of efforts targeting social media accounts deemed to be linked to terrorist organizations. According to the statement, access blocking orders were implemented for 2,702 accounts identified as affiliated with FETÖ in the last month, and for 1,652 accounts found to be engaging in terrorist propaganda over the last two months.
Communications Director Burhanettin Duran announced in a statement on his social media account that, as part of digital monitoring efforts conducted under the coordination of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, access has been blocked in the last month for 2,702 social media accounts identified as having links to FETÖ.
ACCESS BLOCKED FOR 2,702 ACCOUNTS IN THE LAST MONTH
Stating that digital monitoring, analysis, and coordination activities carried out under the coordination of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications are being maintained in conjunction with relevant institutions, Duran made the following remarks:
"Our state's struggle against terrorist propaganda, disinformation activities, and psychological warfare attempts conducted through digital channels continues with determination, utilizing all of its resources. In this context, under the coordination of our Presidency's Directorate of Communications; as a result of the joint efforts of the General Directorate of Security's Cybercrime Combat Department, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices, and our Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), access blocking measures were immediately implemented for 2,702 social media accounts identified as being FETÖ or affiliated with FETÖ within the last month."
PROCESS REGARDING ACCOUNTS IDENTIFIED AS ENGAGING IN TERRORIST PROPAGANDA
Duran stated that as a result of technical examinations and digital network analyses conducted over the last two months, actions were also taken regarding various social media accounts, and said:
"Necessary legal and administrative procedures have been established for 1,652 social media accounts identified as praising or encouraging terrorism, spreading disinformation, and engaging in psychological warfare activities against our country, with the coordination of our relevant institutions, primarily the Ministries of Justice and Interior, and access blocking decisions have been implemented for these accounts. The analyses conducted clearly reveal that terrorist organizations carry out propaganda activities not only in the physical realm but also on digital platforms using organized, coordinated, and systematic methods; and that they target social peace, our national unity, and public order through manipulation, perception management, and disinformation."
STATEMENT REGARDING DIGITAL CHANNELS
In his statement, Duran also included the following assessments:
"Under the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkey continues its fight against terrorism in the field, across borders, and on digital channels with the same determination, the same understanding of legal legitimacy, and the same state seriousness. The digital sphere is an inseparable part of our national security. Terrorist organizations will in no way be allowed to use social media and digital platforms for propaganda, recruitment, financing, disinformation, and psychological warfare purposes. As the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, we will continue with determination to constantly monitor the digital ecosystem together with all our relevant institutions, to identify every kind of threat targeting our national security, to take the necessary measures without delay, and to provide our citizens with accurate information against disinformation."
ASSESSMENT REGARDING THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF JULY 15
Reminding that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the July 15 coup attempt, Duran concluded his statement with the following words:
"FETÖ, which aimed at the will of our noble nation, was frustrated that night by the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the epic resistance of our nation, and the determined struggle of our state. In the 10 years that have passed, our state has continued its fight against all terrorist organizations, especially FETÖ, with the same perseverance and determination. I commemorate all our noble martyrs who sacrificed their lives for our homeland with mercy and gratitude, and I offer my thanks to our heroic veterans. The Republic of Turkey will never allow any structure, any terrorist organization, or any digital threat that aims at its national unity and solidarity to pass."
