Controversial remarks from academic following fake diploma scandal: Social media floods with comments on 'Kemalist order' post

Turkey has recently been shaken by the dismantling of an organized forgery network that had infiltrated public systems. The gang, which issued fake university diplomas and driver's licenses to hundreds of people, has caused a major stir in public opinion.

As a result of the investigation conducted out of Ankara, it was revealed that among those who secured public positions by obtaining fake academic titles were lawyers, engineers, teachers, pharmacists, and historians, with the most notable figures being 400 fake academics, professors, and associate professors.

ŞİNASİ GÜNDÜZ’S POST DRAWS BACKLASH

At a time when the fake diploma scandal is on the agenda, a social media post by Prof. Dr. Şinasi Gündüz from Istanbul University drew significant backlash. In his statement, Gündüz used the following expressions:

"The fake diploma gang incident... Lawyers, engineers, teachers, pharmacists, historians... Among them are 400 fake academics, professors, and associate professors... The positions they held, the postgraduate studies they completed... It makes one's heart sink just thinking about it... The Kemalist system is a complete cesspool."

SHARP REACTION FROM HISTORIAN SİNAN MEYDAN

Prof. Dr. Gündüz's statements sparked major debates on social media. Historian Sinan Meydan reacted sharply to Gündüz's remarks, stating, "What a shameless character! He tries to hold the 'Kemalist order' responsible for the swamp created by the 23-year AKP order; he tries to market the AKP order as the 'Kemalist order' without any shame, and he doesn't even blush," expressing his criticism.

ABDÜLHAMİT KAYIHAN OSMANOĞLU'S DIPLOMA ALSO BROUGHT UP

Some social media users, in response to Gündüz's statements, recalled the 'diploma' of Abdülhamid Kayıhan Osmanoğlu, the 4th generation grandson of Sultan Abdul Hamid II.
