Countdown begins in Istanbul: Date set for metro line connecting 3 districts
The Ümraniye-Ataşehir-Göztepe Metro Line, which is expected to significantly ease transportation on the Asian side of Istanbul, is nearing completion. During a test drive attended by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan, it was announced that the line is targeted to begin passenger service by the end of the year.
Work has reached the final stage on the Ümraniye-Ataşehir-Göztepe Metro Line, a project of great interest to millions of citizens in Istanbul. While test drives continue on the project that will connect three densely populated districts on the Asian side, the date for the line's entry into service has also been clarified.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan participated in a test drive on the metro line, which is nearing the end of its construction process, and inspected the work on-site.
BROAD PARTICIPATION IN TEST DRIVE
In addition to İBB Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan, Ümraniye Mayor İsmet Yıldırım, Ataşehir Deputy Mayor Murat Güneş, and Kadıköy Deputy Mayor İbrahim Başar Necipoğlu also participated in the test drive conducted on the Göztepe-Ümraniye Metro Line.
Before the test drive, the delegation received information from officials regarding the work carried out within the scope of the project.
PLANNED TO ENTER SERVICE BY YEAR-END
Making statements after his inspections, Nuri Aslan evaluated the current status of the metro line.
Aslan stated that the Ümraniye-Ataşehir-Göztepe Metro Line is planned to begin carrying passengers by the end of this year, noting that the transportation burden in the region will be significantly eased once the line is commissioned.
Touching upon the new line's connection to existing rail systems, Aslan said that integration will be provided via the Çarşı Station on the Üsküdar-Sultanbeyli Metro Line and the Yenisahra Station on the Kadıköy-Sabiha Gökçen Airport Metro Line.
Aslan stated, "We will begin carrying passengers here by the end of this year and will commission it. Thus, we will have solved a major problem."
ASIAN SIDE'S TRANSPORTATION NETWORK TO BE STRENGTHENED
With the completion of the metro line that will connect the districts of Ümraniye, Ataşehir, and Kadıköy, the goal is to increase public transportation options on the Asian side and make transfers between different metro lines faster.
