Criminal complaint against governors in earthquake zone not processed: 'No responsibility'
At least 53 thousand 537 citizens lost their lives in the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş. A complaint filed against governors in the earthquake zone, alleging that necessary measures were not taken before and after the earthquake, was not processed by the Office of the Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor.
Lawyer Tacettin Çolak from Halkçı Hukukçular (Populist Lawyers) filed a criminal complaint with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, stating that the governors in the earthquake zone caused the deaths and injuries of thousands of citizens and the destruction of thousands of buildings due to their failure to take necessary measures before and after the earthquake.
According to the report by Mehmet Oflaz from Cumhuriyet, the prosecutor's office, which received Çolak's criminal complaint, sent the file regarding the governors to the Court of Cassation (Yargıtay).
Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor Bekir Şahin, as a result of his examination and evaluation, decided that the complaint against the governors should "not be processed".
