Criminal complaint against IYI Party MP Turhan Çömez: Child abduction and detention...

The Ministry of Family and Social Services has filed a criminal complaint against IYI Party Balıkesir MP Turhan Çömez, who broadcasted on his social media account with two children who were under a protection order and had left their facility without permission.

The Ministry issued a written statement regarding the broadcast made by Çömez on his social media account.

The statement, which noted that Çömez conducted a staged and illegal broadcast with two children who were under a protection order and had left their facility without permission, reported that judicial and legal processes regarding the allegations in the broadcast are currently ongoing.

The statement included the following: "However, by conducting this broadcast with our children, Turhan Çömez has both jeopardized the security of the ongoing judicial and legal processes and caused our children to suffer further harm. It should not be forgotten that this person, by publishing information about investigations conducted with confidentiality and diligence in this manner, has endangered the safety of the children."

Emphasizing that the Ministry observes the best interests of all children in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey and the Child Protection Law No. 5395, the statement noted the following:

"A person holding the title of a deputy of the Republic of Turkey is expected to comply with our Constitution and relevant laws, and by observing the same sensitivity, they should express what can be done to empower and protect our children in a constructive language instead of using them as political material.

What must not be forgotten is that children are above politics. To this day, we have not sacrificed the lives and safety of our children to anyone's political ambitions, and we will not do so. Furthermore, we are filing a criminal complaint against Turhan Çömez and all other involved parties regarding the forced, staged broadcast with children under state protection without obtaining any permission from state institutions, for the crimes of deprivation of liberty, child abduction and detention, abduction of a person under care and supervision without consent, and violation of privacy."

IYI Party Balıkesir MP Turhan Çömez shared a video on his X account and said the following:

''We warned you repeatedly, we submitted parliamentary questions, you did not deign to address us, Mahinur Özdemir. Look, what the children who escaped from the orphanage in Sincan are telling; Insults, battery, stabbing, drugs, rape... As the IYI Party, we will bring this issue to the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). I hope our AK Party and MHP colleagues will approve and we can get to the bottom of all these disgraces.''
