Crisis in YRP: 'Erdoğan will go to the US' remarks lead to resignation

In the Balışeyh district of Kırıkkale, Hilmi Şen, who was elected mayor as a candidate from the New Welfare Party in the March 31 Local Administration elections, announced that he has resigned from the New Welfare Party.

Şen stated that he made the decision to resign due to the remarks made by the party's Deputy Chairman, Doğan Aydal, regarding AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In a written statement regarding the matter, Şen said:

“I was elected as the Mayor of Balışeyh from the New Welfare Party in the March 31, 2024 local elections. The remarks by New Welfare Party Deputy Chairman Doğan Aydal, saying 'If Erdoğan cannot change the Constitution, he will go to another country, he will go to America,' are an ugly lack of consciousness and a sign of disrespect.

I strongly condemn these words. While nationalism should be the foundation and national unity and solidarity should be at the highest level during the economic and political processes our country is going through, I find it wrong that Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the leader of the Turkish-Islamic geography, is being left alone and not supported.

I am resigning from the New Welfare Party due to the negative attitudes and actions within the party directed at our President.”

WHAT HAPPENED?

Doğan Aydal had said during a live broadcast on Halk TV, "If the Constitution is not changed, I think Erdoğan will go to the US," and these words had caused a major stir in the political agenda.
