Critical convention meeting between Özel and Kılıçdaroğlu camps: What happened at the meeting?

As the convention debates that began following the court's absolute nullity ruling continue within the CHP, it has been learned that contacts are ongoing to establish a basis for consensus between the parties.

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, lawyers acting on behalf of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and former Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu held a meeting to conduct legal assessments regarding whether an extraordinary convention can be held.

LEGAL OPINIONS DISCUSSED

It was stated that the lawyer representing the Özgür Özel side conveyed the assessments of public and election law experts, who could not attend the meeting, to the other side. Articles and legal evaluations containing the opinions of these legal experts, which suggest that the injunction does not constitute an obstacle to holding the convention, were shared.

It was also noted that a proposal to form an “Arbitration Committee” consisting of various legal experts, and for this committee to present a joint legal opinion, was brought to the agenda.

NO SUPPORT FOR ARBITRATION COMMITTEE PROPOSAL

According to the report, while the Özel camp argues that there is no legal obstacle to the convention, the Kılıçdaroğlu side maintained its assessment that an extraordinary convention cannot be held.

It was reported that the proposal to establish an arbitration committee, which was raised during the meeting, was not accepted by the Kılıçdaroğlu side.
