Critical meeting begins in CHP: Mansur Yavaş says 'It is clear that the operations will continue'
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş stated in his remarks before the CHP Metropolitan Mayors Meeting that disinformation campaigns against CHP-run municipalities have gained momentum, saying, "There is only one reason: the greatest power that will change the government today is the CHP mayors, especially in metropolitan cities, and the services they provide. Therefore, it is clear that these operations will continue. However, we will not hold back from providing services."
The CHP Metropolitan Mayors Meeting has begun, hosted by the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality.
The meeting, chaired by CHP Deputy Chairman Gökan Zeybek, was attended by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan, Adana Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Güngör Geçer, Mersin Metropolitan Mayor and Union of Municipalities of Türkiye Deputy Chairman Vahap Seçer, Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Büşra Özdemir, Muğla Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Aras, Tekirdağ Metropolitan Mayor Candan Yüceer, Denizli Metropolitan Mayor Bülent Nuri Çavuşoğlu, Eskişehir Metropolitan Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce, Balıkesir Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Akın, and Bursa Metropolitan Mayor Mustafa Bozbey.
In the meeting, where the municipalities' services for 2025 will be discussed, the work to be carried out in 2026 is also among the agenda items.
The agenda of the meeting will include the process that began with operations against CHP-run municipalities, as well as the arrest of mayors, including the imprisoned presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, the appointment of government trustees, and ongoing investigations. Additionally, the conditions of services carried out under financial and administrative pressure, the fight against drought, the reflections of global and national politics on the country, the implementation of projects aimed at increasing revenue, and Social Security Institution (SGK) debts will also be evaluated.
YAVAŞ SPOKE BEFORE THE MEETING
Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, who has recently been targeted by circles close to the government due to water shortages in Ankara, made notable statements before the meeting.
"IT IS CLEAR THAT THESE OPERATIONS WILL CONTINUE"
Emphasizing that disinformation campaigns against CHP-run municipalities have begun, Yavaş said, "There is only one reason: the greatest power that will change the government today is the CHP mayors, especially in metropolitan cities, and the services they provide. Therefore, it is clear that these operations will continue. However, we will not hold back from providing services."
Noting that the municipalities under CHP administration will continue to serve citizens, Yavaş stated, “For this reason, we are sharing information. We were doing this in the previous term as well. It was very beneficial. Today we are holding the first one. They haven't been able to do it until now due to these known events, but I think we will come together almost every month from now on.”
A final declaration is expected to be announced following the meeting, where the mayors will make presentations regarding their work in their respective municipalities.
