Critical warning from AKOM to Istanbul residents
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has warned citizens against ponding on roads and flooding in areas below street level due to locally strong thunderstorms.
In a statement made by AKOM, it was stated that after the afternoon hours today, the wind will blow from northern directions reaching speeds of 30 to 60 kilometers per hour, causing temperatures to drop suddenly by 8 to 10 degrees.
The statement, which announced that locally strong thunderstorms would occur, noted that the rainy weather is expected to lose its effect after nighttime hours and that sunny summer days are expected to return starting tomorrow.
The statement warned that summer rains generally fall as intense thunderstorms accompanied by storms within a 7 to 15-minute timeframe, causing immediate runoff, which may lead to ponding on roads and flooding in areas remaining below street level.
