Damage assessment launched in the area following building collapses in Fatih

In Fatih's Ayvansaray neighborhood, two adjacent buildings collapsed yesterday due to a natural gas explosion. While 10 people were rescued from the rubble with injuries, 65-year-old Semra Urunca, known to the neighborhood as "Auntie Cotton," lost her life.

The Fatih Municipality Search and Rescue (FARK) teams began damage assessment work in the area today. Detailed inspections are being conducted on the damaged buildings. It was learned that support is being provided to meet the housing needs of citizens who are unable to enter their homes.

Neighborhood resident Erkan Karabiga said, "We were sleeping and woke up to a loud noise. We looked and saw the building had collapsed. There were people trapped under the rubble. May God help them. I knew someone inside. One of them is in bad condition and is fighting for their life. I knew her; she was a local. She was a good person, may God have mercy on her and grant her a place in heaven."

Authorities stated that the exact cause of the incident will be clarified following technical investigations.
