'Dangerous' message for the evening: 'Saraçhane' call from groups close to IBDA-C

Following the sharing of images on social media showing gravestones being broken at the Şehzadebaşı Mosque in Saraçhane Square, Istanbul, the Youth Organization of the Great Eastern Raiders Association (Büyük Doğu Akıncıları Derneği) announced that they would be breaking their fast at the Şehzadebaşı Mosque. 

The announcement on social media, stating, "We will break our fast at Şehzadebaşı this evening to teach a lesson to the dishonorable individuals who attempted to urinate on the mosque wall," has sparked concerns about whether a 'provocation is being prepared.'

TROLLS ARE TARGETING PROTESTERS

Protests against the operation targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) and the arrest of IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu continue to grow across Turkey, particularly in Istanbul.

While evening protests have been ongoing in Saraçhane, where the IMM building is located, since March 19, police have been intervening against university students with plastic bullets and tear gas near the Valens Aqueduct (Bozdoğan Kemeri) every evening.

On the other hand, threatening messages have been directed at the public taking to the streets since the protests began, notably from former AKP MKYK member Mücahit Birinci. AKP member Furkan Bölükbaşı was also among this group. Most recently, Bölükbaşı shared images on his social media account from near the Valens Aqueduct, where protests are intense, claiming that beer was being consumed in the courtyard and on the wall of the Şehzadebaşı Mosque near the aqueduct, and wrote the following:

"You have started to ruin the taste of this business. You are overstepping your bounds. We are warning you for the last time. Get out of our mosques. Otherwise, you will face the consequences."

IFTAR CALL FROM IBDA-C

Ultimately, a call to Saraçhane came from the social media account of the Great Eastern Raiders Youth Organization, which is alleged to be close to the IBDA-C. The group announced that they would hold their iftar this evening at the Şehzadebaşı Mosque and wrote the following:

"As the Great Eastern Raiders, we will break our fast at the Şehzadebaşı Mosque! The filth committed by some enemies of Islam among the protesters in Saraçhane at the Şehzadebaşı Mosque is known to the public! We will break our fast at Şehzadebaşı this evening to teach a lesson to the dishonorable individuals who attempted to urinate on the mosque wall.

"Our issue is neither the recent political disputes nor this legal process; our only issue is the insolence committed at the Şehzadebaşı Mosque. In this context, we invite all Muslim Anatolian people to break their fast at the Şehzadebaşı Mosque during Ramadan, the month of Jihad!

"(Today) Monday, March 24, Time: 19.00, Şehzadebaşı Mosque."

WHO ARE THESE RAIDERS?

The Great Eastern Raiders Youth Organization, which issued the invitation for iftar at the mosque, is known as the youth organization of the IBDA-C, or the "Islamic Great Eastern Raiders Front."

The name IBDA-C has appeared in many attacks in Turkey's recent history. Although they did not claim responsibility for some of them, the signature of the IBDA-C is found on many high-profile terrorist attacks.
