Date announced for local election renewals if cancellations occur

In the decision published by the YSK in the Official Gazette, it was stated that in accordance with Law No. 2972 on Local Administrations and Neighborhood Headman and Council of Elders Elections, if an election in an electoral district is decided to be canceled due to election procedures, a new election will be held in that district, and this must take place on the first Sunday of June 2024.

For this reason, the decision noted that municipal elections, headman and council of elders/committee membership elections that could not be held for any reason on March 31, 2024, as well as headman and council of elders membership elections for villages that have become local administrative units since January 1, 2024, must be held on Sunday, June 2.

The decision emphasized that the elections that need to be held again are in the nature of a repetition and continuation of the original election, and therefore only the voting procedures need to be repeated.
