Date set: Countdown for a new party in CHP corridors
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel evaluated preparations for a new party during a meeting with his staff. Party sources stated that the establishment petition is ready and the process could be officially initiated after the start of the judicial recess, while operations targeting municipalities and the extraordinary convention initiative were also on the meeting's agenda.
CHP's elected Chairman Özgür Özel met with his staff at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). While the main agenda of the meeting consisted of operations targeting CHP-run municipalities, preparations for a new party, field work, and the extraordinary convention process were also discussed.
PETITION FOR NEW PARTY READY
According to a report by Birgün, CHP sources stated that preparations for the establishment of a new party have been largely completed. According to the information obtained, the establishment petition has been prepared, and the application is planned to be made after the start of the judicial recess.
NEW PARTY MAY BE ANNOUNCED TO THE PUBLIC ON JULY 24
Party staff, reminding that the judicial recess will begin on July 20, stated that the Court of Cassation has not yet taken up the objection regarding the decision of the 36th Civil Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice. For this reason, it was suggested that the establishment petition could be submitted to the Ministry of Interior on July 17, and the new party could be announced to the public on July 24.
It was learned that Özgür Özel said during the meeting, "We will not lead those who trust us into despair," and reiterated his words, "Very soon, we will either find a way to take our party back or we will open a new path."
Staff members stated that a limited number of deputies might join the newly established party in the first stage, and those who remain in the CHP will continue the struggle under the existing party umbrella.
OPERATIONS TARGETING MUNICIPALITIES EVALUATED
Investigations into CHP-run municipalities were also addressed at the meeting. Responding to a question regarding a possible process that could extend to Özgür Özel through the Çankaya Municipality, party staff argued that the files against the municipalities were prepared with abstract allegations.
The staff members assessed, "A process leading to our Chairman through the Çankaya Municipality might be being staged. However, no matter what they do, they can no longer stop this march. Our conscience is clear, and we have the people behind us."
FIELD WORK WILL CONTINUE
Field work was also evaluated at the meeting. Emphasizing that contact with the public will continue, the CHP management stated, "We do not need buildings or seats. Wherever the people are, we are there too. We do not need a podium to bring the people's problems to the agenda; if necessary, we will set the agenda from a park bench."
APPLICATION TO COURT FOR EXTRAORDINARY CONVENTION
On the other hand, the signatures of 833 delegates, notarized and collected with the demand for an extraordinary convention in the CHP, will be taken to the civil courts of peace today.
In the application, it will be argued that the Party Statute was violated because the signatures were not processed, and the appointment of a call committee for an extraordinary convention will be requested. Furthermore, the court will be asked to determine that the Party Assembly has fallen due to the resignation of 27 members. If the court decides that the conditions have been met after examining the required delegate majority, the extraordinary convention process could officially begin.
