Date set: Critical election in the Turkish Parliament before Eid al-Adha

The term of Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş ends on June 7. According to the provisions of the Constitution and the Rules of Procedure, the presidential election process must be initiated within the 10 days preceding the end of the speaker's term.

Candidacy applications will be accepted during the first 5 days of the election process, and the elections will be held within the following 5 days. In this context, candidates will be able to submit their applications to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Presidential Council starting tomorrow until Sunday, June 1. The elections will be held on June 3 due to the Eid al-Adha holiday.

The parliamentary speaker election will be conducted by secret ballot. In the first two rounds, a two-thirds majority of the total number of members, which is 400 votes, will be required. In the third round, an absolute majority of 301 votes will be sufficient. If an absolute majority is not achieved in the third round, a fourth round of voting will be held between the two candidates who received the most votes, and the candidate who receives the most votes in this round will be elected speaker.
