Date set for deputy mayor election at Ataşehir Municipality
Following the arrest of Ataşehir Mayor Onursal Adıgüzel, the date for the deputy mayor election in the municipal council has been announced by the Istanbul Governor's Office.
Within the scope of the investigation conducted into Ataşehir Municipality, Mayor Onursal Adıgüzel was arrested on April 22. Following the incident, the Ministry of Interior announced on the same day that Adıgüzel had been temporarily suspended from his duties.
Following Adıgüzel's arrest, the Ataşehir Municipal Council will convene to elect a deputy mayor. In a statement regarding this process, the Istanbul Governor's Office announced that the Ataşehir Municipal Council will meet with an election agenda on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 10:00 AM.
The new deputy mayor will be determined by a vote among the council members.
