Date set for Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör's court appearance

The Beykoz Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had prepared an indictment against Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör, seeking a prison sentence of 6 months to 2 years for the crime of "publicly insulting the Turkish nation" due to his remarks: "Turkey is a country far from civilization. It is one of the most primitive countries I have seen in the world. I have never known a society as ignorant and as devoid of the concept of morality as the Turkish people. In his statement regarding the investigation opened on the matter, Şengör declared that his words were not intended as an insult and were based on scientific data.
