Davutoğlu explains the reason for AKP's Iran-Israel silence: 'State experience makes me think there are two possibilities...'

Criticizing the lack of any statement from Turkey following Iran's air attack on Israel, Ahmet Davutoğlu said, "Wake up, Ankara, wake up. No statement has been made so far. This is impossible to explain." Davutoğlu noted that the reason for the silence might be the upcoming US visit of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in May.

Davutoğlu explains the reason for AKP's Iran-Israel silence: 'State experience makes me think there are two possibilities...'

Following Israel's attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Iran responded with drone and missile attacks against Israel.

As the tension between the two countries escalated in the Middle East, the United Nations Security Council decided to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the attack.

While many countries and international organizations issued statements and reactions regarding the issue, no official statement has yet been made by Turkey. The silence maintained by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan drew attention.

Future Party (Gelecek Partisi) Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu, "Wake up, Ankara, wake up. No statement has been made so far. This is impossible to explain" he said, reacting to the lack of a statement from Turkey.

Attributing the lack of a statement to two possibilities, Davutoğlu stated that the authorized institutions could not receive approval to issue a statement from AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğanand noted the following;

"State experience makes me think there are two possibilities. First: That the authorized institutions prepared a statement but could not get approval from the President. Second, that the President avoided a statement that would disturb circles in Washington before his upcoming US visit."

Davutoğlu's statement is as follows;

"Wake up, Ankara, wake up! Yesterday was a long night for both our region and the world. While all capitals were awake and expressing their positions with statements, only Ankara was silent and desolate. Throughout the night, neither a statement was made nor a crisis meeting was held. No statement has been made so far. This is impossible to explain. But state experience makes me think there are two possibilities. First: That the authorized institutions prepared a statement but could not get approval from the President. Second, that the President avoided a statement that would disturb circles in Washington before his upcoming US visit.

The first reason is a grave consequence of the Presidential Government System rendering state institutions ineffective and paralyzing state reflexes. If the second reason is valid, the situation is even more dire. Turkey cannot index its position on regional issues to another global power, no matter how strong it is. It first determines its own position. Then, it takes active initiatives in this framework before regional and global actors. A passive and reactive approach destroys both our country's reputation and its influence!"
