Death toll from earthquakes in Japan rises to 64

The number of people who lost their lives in the earthquakes that struck Ishikawa Prefecture in western Japan and the coast of the Noto Peninsula in the region has risen to 64.

Death toll from earthquakes in Japan rises to 64

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), earthquakes ranging in magnitude from 5 to 7 occurred on the Noto Peninsula and off the coast of Ishikawa on January 1 and 2.

Two more earthquakes, with magnitudes of 5 and 5.5, were recorded in the peninsula region on January 3 at 02:21 and 10:54 local time, respectively. It was reported that aftershocks are continuing.

Following the earthquakes, it was reported that roads collapsed, some structures across the region were damaged, there were disruptions in water and electricity supplies, and access to some villages was cut off.
