Death toll rises to 30 in Japan earthquake

The death toll following the 7.6 magnitude earthquake in Japan has risen to 30. As a result of the earthquake, which caused dozens of houses to collapse and fires to break out in Ishikawa Prefecture, 15 people lost their lives in the city of Wajima, 6 in Suzu, 5 in Nanao, 1 in Hakui, 2 in the town of Anamizu, and 1 in the town of Shika.

At least 155 aftershocks have occurred following the powerful earthquake, which also affected the Niigata, Fukui, Toyama, and Gifu prefectures. It was reported that fires broke out in more than 200 structures in Wajima, and approximately 500 people were stranded at the city's airport due to road closures.

It was stated that thousands of search and rescue workers have been dispatched to the earthquake zone, but that it has been difficult for teams to reach the areas due to damaged and blocked roads. The tsunami warning issued after the earthquake was lifted this morning. The Japan Meteorological Agency had announced that the 7.6 magnitude earthquake, which occurred yesterday at 16:10 local time, was centered in Ishikawa Prefecture. Tsunami waves caused by the earthquake reached a height of 1 meter 20 centimeters, and disruptions occurred in train lines and flights.
