Debate on the release of Demirtaş and Öcalan in AKP corridors
Within the AKP, claims that former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş could be released if a second 'opening' process proceeds with legal regulations have sparked varying assessments. Some party sources argued that the release of both Demirtaş and Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, could trigger a backlash in society.
Claims regarding the potential release of former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is imprisoned in Edirne Prison, and Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, have become a topic of discussion in AKP corridors.
According to a report by Merve Kılıç from Cumhuriyet, internal party assessments suggest that the potential expectations for release, which have been voiced from time to time by the MHP and the DEM Party within the scope of the process, could be met with public backlash.
"THE CITIZEN'S PRIORITY IS THE ECONOMY"
In views expressed behind the scenes, it was assessed that, “The citizen's priority is the economy. If the process is misread or not explained well, a new wave of polarization combined with economic hardships could emerge.”
AKP sources stated that the public perception must be managed carefully in order to maintain social support for the process.
