Debt dispute between two families ends in bloodshed

The incident occurred yesterday evening around 18:00 on İstasyon Street in the Kalecik district. According to allegations, arguments began between two families who are relatives and work in the bakery business, due to claims of unfair sales practices. While one party threatened the other with death, the threatened party stated they would file a complaint with the police. Following these events, a fight broke out between the two families. Fatih Çekirdek and his nephew Mücahit Çekirdek, who attacked each other with knives, lost their lives, while 4 injured people were taken to the hospital. While suspects related to the incident were taken into custody, the uncle and nephew who lost their lives were laid to rest.

“THEY HAD FOUGHT BEFORE”

Speaking about the incident, local tradesman Ramazan Güner said, “The fight broke out between relatives. There was hostility between them due to the volume of bread sales. They were involved in the bakery business. They were selling what they produced there. They had fought with each other before. Following this, one of the parties threatened the other side with death. The other side said, ‘We will report you to the police.’ When they encountered each other, they fought for this reason. They attacked each other with knives. First, one person died in the fight, and then the son of the deceased person stabbed his cousin to death. Since there was no one around to break it up, the incident escalated. 2 people died, and 3-4 people were injured. The chaos lasted for nearly an hour. Then security forces intervened in the incident. 5 people were taken into custody, but they say the number will increase. The deceased were an uncle and his nephew; they lived in the same apartment building.”

An investigation into the incident has been launched.
