DEM and MHP call for 'legal regulations' but... Why the process is stalled leaks from AKP corridors

A striking claim has been made regarding the second opening process, which was architected by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli and is called "Terror-Free Turkey" by the government, involving the DEM Party and the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Abdullah Öcalan.

Although 2 months have passed since the parliamentary commission report, the fact that no steps have yet been taken regarding the 'legal regulations' that the DEM Party has brought to the agenda and the MHP has been insisting on has led to comments that the process is stalled.

The parliamentary commission report stated that legal steps were tied to the verification of the terrorist organization PKK laying down its arms. According to AKP sources, no development that has crossed this threshold has occurred so far. Party officials state that in the presentation made by MİT Undersecretary İbrahim Kalın, it was also conveyed that no significant change has been observed on the ground other than symbolic steps.

According to the report by the pro-government newspaper Türkiye Gazetesi, the AKP front is of the opinion that it is not possible to make legal regulations under current conditions. Sources state that creating a legal framework in an environment where the organization continues its existence is not considered realistic.

IRAN'S IMPACT ON THE PROCESS

AKP officials point out that developments in Iran have slowed down the process. It is stated that the verification process was expected to be completed this month and move on to the legal regulation stage, but this schedule has been delayed due to regional developments.

AKP sources also remain distant to the DEM Party's demands for legal regulations to be made before the laying down of arms is completed. While it is stated that a new phase will not be entered until the conditions on the ground change, it is expressed that if concrete progress is achieved, legal regulations could be brought to the agenda quickly.
