DEM Party calls for 'Öcalan to meet with Mazlum Abdi'! Reaction to SDF operations

The Damascus administration, under HTS control in Syria, has declared the positions of the SDF, the Syrian branch of the PKK terrorist organization, in the Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafieh neighborhoods of Aleppo as legitimate military targets.

DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan reacted to Syria's operations against the SDF during a press conference held at her party's headquarters.

Emphasizing that the developments in the region are causing serious concern, Doğan said, "Syria is a multi-communal, multi-cultural place where many different peoples, many different identities, and many different faiths live together; these peoples, who have paid a very high price for decades, are living in anxiety once again. And this has been going on for months; we have been issuing warnings about this."

Stating that what is happening is not limited to Syria alone, Doğan said, "We are saying that this is not an issue that only concerns Syria. Because the developments in the Middle East affect all countries living in the Middle East in one way or another."

Calling on the Damascus administration, Doğan expressed her reaction with the words, "The Damascus administration's attacks on Kurds and Syriacs must be stopped immediately. Everything necessary must be done to stop them. There are attacks being carried out with tanks, artillery, howitzers, and drones in the Kurdish neighborhoods in Aleppo and the neighborhood where Syriacs live in high numbers."

"TURKEY MUST PLAY A CONSTRUCTIVE ROLE"

Doğan said, "What should Turkey do in Syria? Play a constructive role, play a role that encourages dialogue, play a unifying and integrating role. This is our expectation as the DEM Party," and continued her words as follows:

"Syria is home to all the peoples and faith groups living there and belongs to them. Syria belongs to the Syrians. And Syrians are not homogeneous. Because of this diversity, Syria is a very important place. Aleppo is one of the most important symbolic cities of this diversity.

One must act in accordance with this symbol. Guarantor countries must also act accordingly. We invite everyone to take responsibility quickly to end these conflicts, open channels for dialogue, and achieve a democratic Syria."

"ÖCALAN WANTS TO MEET WITH MAZLUM ABDI"

Doğan stated that PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan wants to meet with Mazlum Abdi.

Arguing that conditions must be created for PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan to 'communicate freely' for meetings both in Syria and Turkey, Doğan said:

“There are some names that Mr. Öcalan wants to meet with, especially regarding the process. For example, while saying this, we had stated that Mr. Öcalan wanted to meet with Mr. Masoud Barzani. We had stated that he wanted to meet with Mr. Nechirvan Barzani as well. We had also stated that he wanted to meet with Mr. Mazlum Abdi. Now, Mr. Öcalan has proposals regarding the important developments in the region. If not now, when?

Because it is an inevitable reality that the developments there have an impact here. This reality has been experienced before. Open the path again. Let Öcalan establish direct contact and convey his proposals directly. It is not possible to make progress through conflict, war, attacks, and sieges. Therefore, all guarantor countries must first and foremost guarantee the right to life of the peoples living there right now.”

'OUR DELEGATION HAS A REQUEST TO MEET WITH ERDOĞAN'

Upon a journalist's question, Doğan also said the following regarding the meeting traffic of the Imralı Delegation:

“As they have stated before, our delegation has a request to meet with President Erdoğan on its agenda. However, I can state that the planning for the meeting and the appointment has not yet been finalized. Our delegation is following up. But there is such an agenda. And there is such a meeting request. As you know, the meeting held with Mr. Öcalan continues in a routine manner with the DEM Party Imralı Delegation. And in the statement they made before the new year, they met with political parties. After their meetings with those parties, they also held a meeting with the Minister of Justice.

They personally made the statements to the public regarding the content of the meeting. Our Imralı Delegation, Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar, made these statements. At that time, they stated that meeting with President Erdoğan was also on their agenda. They had said that the date and the appointment planning had not yet been finalized. It has not been finalized as of now. However, one should not evaluate the fact that it has not been finalized as a negative. As you would appreciate, there are very busy agendas on the one hand. Therefore, we expect this meeting to take place in the near future.

Again, the fact that the meeting to be held with Öcalan has not yet taken place should not be evaluated as a negative or a negative situation. It is also proceeding within its own routine flow. What would Öcalan's assessment be regarding the attacks in Aleppo and after the attacks? We have no way of knowing that right now. Because a meeting has not taken place after these events occurred.”
