DEM Party calls on Erdoğan for a resolution process

Tülay Hatimoğulları, Co-Chair of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), made statements to the press regarding the current agenda following the 13th Ordinary General Assembly of the Hacı Bektaş Veli Anatolian Culture Foundation.

Responding to a question regarding Ufuk Uras's suggestion that there would be some developments following his meeting with MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, Hatimoğulları said, "We view Ufuk Uras's meeting as natural. As the DEM Party, we have taken every opportunity to convey the message that the Kurdish issue in Turkey must be resolved through peaceful and democratic methods."

Hatimoğulları continued as follows:

"Our call from here is that peace needs to be socialized. Peace is not something that should only be discussed among political parties; it needs to be discussed by all segments of society, far beyond that. For this reason, all intellectuals, writers, artists, and journalists in Turkey; great duties and responsibilities fall upon every segment regarding this issue."

REACTION TO TRUSTEES

Addressing the trustees appointed to Tunceli and Ovacık, Hatimoğulları said, "There may be more to come. There are signs from the pro-government press, as well as from statements made by some government spokespersons, that the appointment of trustees may continue. We have underlined that the trustee system is a political coup in Turkey. The trustee system is not only a political coup but also means that the voter's right to vote and be elected is being taken away in Turkey. We never find this to be right."

"THE PERSON WHO NEEDS TO SPEAK IS THE PRESIDENT HIMSELF"

Stating, 'On one hand, a so-called hand of peace will be extended, and on the other, a trustee will be appointed. We never find these to be right," Tülay Hatimoğulları continued:

"You expressed it in your previous question. Whether a partial amnesty or something similar might come. Regarding the trustee regime, the practices in prisons, or any plan or project they might have in mind for the future, we have not received any information directly from the government or the President. Likewise, we have no information other than the statements made by the MHP Chairman and those shared with the public.

We have made our call, and we are making it once again through you. Another person who needs to speak here is the President himself. We have not heard his own assessment from his own mouth regarding how they approach the Kurdish issue and these approaches put forward by the junior partner during this period. The only statement they have made is that there is no rift within the People's Alliance. However, what concerns us more is: what is their approach to the resolution of the Kurdish issue in Turkey? There is no statement available on this subject. But there is a practice, and that practice is the trustee system.

MESSAGE ON NEGOTIATION

I would like to underline that as long as the trustee system continues, the possibilities of discussing peace are gradually being eliminated. Today, we have faced pressures against our party, what happened in Dersim the day before yesterday, and what happened in Batman; we have encountered pressures similar to Israel's approach to Palestinians against people who are struggling on democratic grounds to demand their democratic rights. We never accept these.

We underline that as the DEM Party, we are ready to be a primary subject if the possibilities for discussing an honorable peace on democratic grounds are formed. However, as long as the trustee regime and other practices and attempts to force submission continue, we will continue our struggle on democratic grounds."
