DEM Party Kızıltepe Mayor İpek resigns from his party

In a written statement, İpek noted that he has resigned from the DEM Party and has decided to continue his duties as mayor as an independent mayor starting today.

Stating, "I have served the principles of the DEM Party with great devotion and excitement for approximately 35 years," İpek noted that he was deemed worthy of being nominated for the Kızıltepe Mayoralty in the primary election held by his party.

Reminding that he was elected mayor in the Local Administration General Elections on March 31 and began his duties, İpek continued as follows:

"I was subjected to threats by certain individuals I began working with within the municipality that some private footage would be shared in the media. In order to eliminate this trap and conspiracy aimed at seizing the municipal administration through my person, and to fight against these individuals, I have been forced to resign from the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party, of which I was a member, even though I did not want to. At this point, I believe that the greatest will is the will of the people. I have existed with this will, and I will continue to exist. I respectfully announce that I will continue to serve the valuable people of Kızıltepe as an independent."

Kızıltepe Mayor Zeyni İpek had also announced his resignation from the DEM Party on August 8, but in a written statement on August 10, he stated that he had not formalized his resignation decision and that he would transfer the acting mayoralty of Kızıltepe to a person to be determined within the council during the disciplinary investigation process initiated by the party.
