Speaking on the agreement reached between the jihadist HTS and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Koçyiğit stated, "The Kurdish issue in Syria is a matter for the Syrians themselves. DEM Party's Koçyiğit: 'A new era has begun in Syria'

DEM Party Group Deputy Chair and accompanying deputies held a press conference at the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). Evaluating the agreement reached between the jihadist HTS and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Koçyiğit said, "The Kurdish issue in Syria is a matter for the Syrians themselves."

Koçyiğit used the following expressions: "The text of the agreement signed yesterday also signals that we are no longer facing just northeastern Syria, but the emergence of a unified Syrian republic."

The full statement by DEM Party's Koçyiğit regarding the agreement is as follows:

"I believe that the debates regarding the YPG will now largely, at least, be removed from our agenda. Today, the Kurdish issue in Syria is a matter for the Syrians themselves. Syrians will conduct their own discussions within their own dynamics and will ultimately find a way. It is out of the question for us to interfere in the internal affairs of another country from here. But let us state this; there is an important determination regarding the Syrian Kurds. They have expressed it many times, and all their practices support their statements. I would like to state that the expressions, 'We are not enemies of Turkey. We do not display a hostile attitude toward Turkey. We have not armed ourselves against Turkey. The peoples of Turkey are our brothers,' are very valuable expressions. The text of the agreement signed yesterday also signals that we are no longer facing just northeastern Syria, but the emergence of a unified Syrian republic. In this sense, I believe that a new era has begun and that this new era itself will at least exclude some of the debates in Turkey, revealing the futility of these discussions."
