DEM Party responds to name and leadership change allegations!

It has been learned that the DEM Party is set to restructure as part of the second 'opening' process and is considering a name change as part of this reorganization. It was alleged that components affiliated with DEM, such as the Democratic Society Congress (DTK), the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK), and the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), would be dissolved and that the party's new name would emphasize 'Democratic Republic.' The DEM Party front, however, issued a statement saying, "No evaluation or discussion has taken place within our party's authorized bodies regarding this matter."

DEM Party responds to name and leadership change allegations!

It has been alleged that a radical restructuring is on the agenda for the DEM Party, an alliance partner in the second 'opening' process—which the government calls a 'Terror-Free Turkey'—architected by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli.

In this context, it is stated that preparations are underway for a broad transformation, ranging from party identity to organizational structures, and from management cadres to election strategies.

EMPHASIS ON 'DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC'

While it is stated that the process has been moved to a legal and judicial footing with the adoption of a joint report, it is reported that the party leadership is evaluating the option of a name change. It is suggested that the goal is to highlight the emphasis on a "Democratic Republic" in the new naming.

According to Habertürk, it is noted that party representatives argue that the concept of "Republic" should be reinterpreted under current conditions and emphasize that science and democracy should be prioritized over weapons.

DTK, HDK, AND DBP TO BE DISSOLVED

There are plans to consolidate political activities under a single structure in the new era. In line with this, it is stated that the dissolution of formations such as the Democratic Society Congress, the Peoples' Democratic Congress, and the Democratic Regions Party is on the agenda.

With this change, which is also expected to affect election processes, it is stated that left-wing components will engage in politics under a single party umbrella and that deputies who entered Parliament from DEM Party lists will not be able to switch to another party.

MANAGEMENT CHANGE AND CONGRESS CALENDAR

There are also plans for renewal in the party's top management. It is reported that while Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan is expected to continue in his post, a comprehensive change of personnel is planned for other levels. It is stated that the date of the congress, which is planned to be held in the summer months, will be clarified according to the development of the process.

STATEMENT FROM DEM PARTY

In a statement made by the DEM Party press office regarding the allegation in question, it was stated: "Today, news has appeared in some press and media outlets that our party will change its name and that our component structure and co-chairs will change. No evaluation or discussion has taken place within our party's authorized bodies regarding the news in question. For your information."

ÖCALAN HAD SENT A MESSAGE TO ERKAN BAŞ

On the other hand, Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, had sent a message to Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Chairman Erkan Baş regarding a new political party during his meeting with the DEM Party Imralı Delegation in August.

Journalist Ruşen Çakır, who received information about the subject from the DEM Party Imralı Delegation, conveyed the message Öcalan sent to Baş as follows:

“Convey my greetings to Erkan Baş. I have named the new party the ‘Democratic Republic Party.’ I shared this name with friends here as well. However, talk to him and explain that this is an initiative that could evolve into an organizational unity on the basis of a ‘Democratic Socialism Party.’ We are talking about a possible formation. Get a party name suggestion from him as well. Convey this message along with my greetings. It may be possible for them to join the new structure.”
