DEM Party reveals Demirtaş's first message: A call for concrete steps

DEM Party Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan visited former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is being held at the Edirne F-Type High-Security Closed Penal Institution. Following the visit, a written statement was issued by the DEM Party.

The statement noted that the visit involved an exchange of views on current developments in Turkey and the region, as well as recent debates, and stated: "Our Co-Chairs shared information after the visit, reporting that they found their friend to be extremely strong and in high spirits, and added, 'He conveyed his greetings and love to all our peoples.'"

"WE ARE READY TO PROVIDE EVERY CONTRIBUTION"

The DEM Party statement reported that after the visit, Hatimoğulları and Bakırhan said: "We found our imprisoned comrades in very good spirits. Our friends in prison stated that they find the policy pursued by our party positive and support it. They confirmed that both they and other political prisoners are ready to provide every contribution for an honorable peace.

They stated that no steps have been taken regarding the process yet, and that there is a need for concrete steps to be taken in this regard. They specifically expressed that the most important and primary way for this process to begin is the lifting of the isolation in İmralı. For this reason, they said that the isolation should be addressed as a significant agenda item. They also called on everyone who can contribute to an honorable peace to do so."

Hatimoğulları and Bakırhan pointed out that discussing democratization and peace in prisons is a serious problem, and the statement noted their remarks: "Despite everything, our comrades hope that the prices they have paid will contribute to peace," adding that they wished for the imprisoned figures to be in a position to contribute from the outside.
