DEM Party submits parliamentary inquiry motion for Narin Güran murder
DEM Party Group Deputy Chairs Gülüstan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sezai Temelli have submitted a parliamentary inquiry motion to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) to investigate all aspects of the Narin Güran murder and to develop policies to prevent violence and abuse against children.
DEM Party Group Deputy Chairs Gülüstan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sezai Temelli have submitted a parliamentary inquiry motion to the Speaker of the Parliament regarding the murder of Narin Güran, whose lifeless body was found on the banks of the Eğertutmaz Stream 19 days after she went missing in Diyarbakır.
The motion, submitted to ensure a comprehensive investigation into all aspects of the murder, to guarantee a reliable and effective investigation, and to develop preventive policies regarding violence, abuse, and death of children in Turkey, included the following statements:
"The disappearance of Narin Güran in Diyarbakır and the subsequent 19-day dark process reveal the human rights violations and security problems children face in Turkey. The process of finding Narin's body, the contradictions experienced during the investigation, the spread of speculations, and the confidentiality orders that restrict the public's right to information have created a deep sense of distrust, while contradictory statements from authorities have further complicated the situation. During this process, threats against journalists and statements from the ruling wing have reinforced the impression that the investigation is not being conducted fairly.
'THE STATE OF SILENCE IN THE VILLAGE REVEALS DIRTY RELATIONSHIPS'
The inclusion of suspects in the search and rescue efforts regarding Narin Güran's death and the state of silence in the village reveal the dirty relationships and the influence of powerful individuals regarding the incident.
While child abuse and disappearance cases are increasing day by day in Turkey, the failure of relevant institutions to share data on this issue and to develop effective policies deepens the problems. For this reason, we request and demand the opening of a Parliamentary Inquiry to investigate all aspects of the Narin Güran murder and to develop effective policies by protecting the rights of children as children and observing their best interests."
