Demirtaş calls on Erdoğan, Bahçeli, and terrorist leader Öcalan! 'Don't listen to what others say...'
Former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is imprisoned in Edirne Prison, addressed AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, and terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan in a statement.
Imprisoned former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, whom MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, the architect of the new resolution process dubbed a 'Turkey without terrorism,' has said 'his release will be auspicious for Turkey,' has issued a statement on his X account.
CALL TO ERDOĞAN, BAHÇELİ, AND THE TERRORIST LEADER
Addressing AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, and the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Abdullah Öcalan, in his statement, Demirtaş said, "As a brother and a politician striving for peace, I am calling out to the main actors of the process: President Erdoğan, MHP leader Bahçeli, and PKK founding leader Öcalan; please do not stop taking concrete steps, do not look at what others are saying, trust yourselves, and believe that 86 million people are longing for peace."
HE ADDRESSED THE DEPUTIES: GO TO İMRALI
Demirtaş also called on the deputies in the Turkish Grand National Assembly's (TBMM) resolution commission, stating, "For years, you sent our youth to the mountains and on cross-border operations. You placed the greatest risk on their shoulders, and unfortunately, some paid the price with their lives and blood. Now that the opportunity to take risks and end this conflict once and for all has been seized, please take a little risk yourselves and go to İmralı Island to put an end to this issue. Moreover, the risk you will take is not a risk of death like our youth, but a minor political risk."
The full text of Demirtaş's statement is as follows:
A man goes to the doctor and describes his ailments. The doctor asks if there is any medication he uses regularly. The man gives the name of a drug and says, "I use that." The doctor asks, "You know that the drug you are using is addictive, don't you?" The man replies: "But doctor, I have been using that medicine every day for almost 15 years and I have never seen it cause addiction."
By doing the same things every day, thinking in the same way, and speaking in the same way, we can neither change ourselves nor change anything. We cannot even realize the clichés, templates, and taboos we are stuck in. If no one moves even a step from where they stand, we cannot create new and creative solution possibilities.
The place we are stuck in is the pain, anger, prejudices, and the resulting distrust caused by 40 years of conflict. I am not saying these are unimportant, but if we cannot find ways to overcome them and heal our wounds, we will not even be able to realize our "addictions," and we will struggle to reach a deep-rooted and permanent solution.
In a social reality where sacrificing one's life for one's faith, thoughts, and ideals is sanctified, we face two fundamental difficulties. First, we cannot and should not erase or cast aside the precious memory of those who have sacrificed their lives and the values they created by doing so. Second, if many lives have been sacrificed for a thought or faith, that thought and faith do not automatically become "correct" from a sociological and political perspective, but we struggle to accept this. This is why we are afraid and hesitant to think new things and do new things when so many lives have been sacrificed for the sake of the homeland, the flag, an ideology, or an organization.
However, at some point, we must be convinced that at this stage, not a single one of our children sacrificed their lives in vain. If we have focused on creating a "law of brotherhood" based on equality, justice, freedom, and democracy, and on living together as one in the process being carried out, it means that the memory of those we lost will not be tarnished.
Therefore, as a brother and a politician striving for peace, I am calling out to all parties and the main actors of the process: President Erdoğan, MHP leader Bahçeli, and PKK founding leader Öcalan; please do not stop taking concrete steps, do not look at what others are saying, trust yourselves, and believe that 86 million people are longing for peace.
Furthermore, people who are waiting to lay down their arms completely and come down from the mountains want to see that Abdullah Öcalan, whom they define as their "leader," is being visited and listened to not only by security units but also by politicians, and to see that a return to politics is possible in this way and that the state is sincere and serious about this matter, so that they can trust and lay down their arms completely.
I also want to address the esteemed deputies; for years, you sent our youth to the mountains and on cross-border operations. You placed the greatest risk on their shoulders, and unfortunately, some paid the price with their lives and blood. Now that the opportunity to take risks and end this conflict once and for all has been seized, please take a little risk yourselves and go to İmralı Island to put an end to this issue. Moreover, the risk you will take is not a risk of death like our youth, but a minor political risk.
Let us all act bravely together; please let us not get stuck in our clichés and fears in the final stretch and jeopardize this historic opportunity for peace.
I send you all my sincere greetings and love, and I hope to meet in days filled with freedom, peace, democracy, and brotherhood as soon as possible.
