Demirtaş calls on the reconciliation commission in the Turkish Parliament

The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) delegation visited former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş in prison today. Party members announced that they would also visit Figen Yüksekdağ in the coming days.

MEETING HELD IN PRISON

DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları and Istanbul MP Cengiz Çiçek met with Selahattin Demirtaş at Edirne Prison. Following the meeting, a press statement was made in front of the prison at 14:00.

Hatimoğulları made the following statements in her speech there:

"The Kobane Conspiracy case continues to exist as a dark stain in the history of Turkey. Our friends have been in prison for years in an unjust and unlawful manner. Our friends detained in the Kobane case must be released immediately. With the call initiated by Mr. Abdullah Öcalan, Turkey is now in a brand new era. In these days when weapons will fall silent and democracy will be discussed, the implementation of ECHR decisions is vital. And it will provide confidence to society. Democratic politics must not be silenced. The judiciary cannot be a stick for politics; unfortunately, for a long time, the judiciary has been applied to the opposition in the harshest way as a stick for politics. Stop making the judiciary a stick for politics. Dear Selahattin Demirtaş and dear Figen Yüksekdağ, who are detained in the Kobane Conspiracy case, must be released immediately."

DEMİRTAŞ'S MESSAGE READ

After the visit, Hatimoğulları shared the message sent by Selahattin Demirtaş with the public:

"We hope and wish that the parliamentary resolution commission will take a courageous decision and meet with Mr. Abdullah Öcalan as soon as possible. Because the 50-year conflict is ending in a deep-rooted and permanent way. For 50 years, security policies have been prioritized in this issue, and as a result, unfortunately, this country has lost tens of thousands of its youth. Now, what has not been tried until today must be tried. And if necessary, members of parliament should take political risks and go to Imralı for peace."
