Development in the church attack! The vehicle used by the attackers has been identified

An attack was carried out by two masked individuals during Sunday mass at the Santa Maria Italian Church in Sarıyer. Tuncer Cihan, who was visiting the church and opened the door, lost his life in the attack.

Following the attack, teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Counter-Terrorism Branch launched an investigation and detained 49 people alleged to have connections to the two ISIS attackers. The interrogation of the 51 individuals is ongoing at the Istanbul Counter-Terrorism Branch Directorate.

ONE OF THE WEAPONS USED IN THE INCIDENT WAS MISSING

It was learned that one weapon was seized during searches conducted at the Başakşehir home of the two captured ISIS members, while they claimed to have discarded the other. Upon this, the Istanbul Counter-Terrorism Branch, in coordination with the Crime Scene Investigation Branch, conducted a search with the participation of 300 police officers in a 2 km area of the forest where they claimed to have discarded the weapon, and found the dismantled weapon and a ski mask today.

THE VEHICLE THEY USED TO ARRIVE AT THE ATTACK WAS ALSO FOUND

The Polish-registered vehicle the attackers arrived in during the incident was missing. That vehicle was found this evening in a vacant lot in Beylikdüzü with its license plates removed. The police have initiated an investigation inside the vehicle.
